propane furnace flame will go out withing a couple of minutes

I have a RV with a Coleman propane furnace. The RV is about 10 years old and the furnace was never used. I tried to start the furnace up this weekend. The pilot light will light and will stay on indefinitely until the burner lights. Within a few minutes after the burner lights, it goes out and the pilot light goes out too. I do not have the instruction book that came with the furnace and have relied on the instructions on the furnace cover. What is causing the furnace burner to got out? How can it be fixed?

sometimes spider webs or dust clogs the pilot shoot. also over a period of time soot can cause the pilot to poorly light or go out. you can try cleaning it first. as far as everything going out, ensure the thermostat has not been disturbed and giving a false reading to the furnace. if it is the mercury bulb type it has an adjustment screw on the face. you nedd little knowledge to adjust it. if this is not the problem, you need to turn your attention to the propane bottle hookup and the pressure regulator. disconnect the bottles and make sure no debris in in the coupling or partially blocking the propane feed tube. one way of telling that the regulator is clogged or going bad is to turn on all the stove burners. if the flames drop low and then go up in height, the your regulator is either sticking or it needs replacement. assuming it is old you can turn the top control from side to side, if it is tough spray some wd-40 or other lubricant under the cap , or take the cap off and spray. if this affects the stove burners then you are in the right area of problem and possibly the regulator needs changing. good luck
