Does anyone know how to troubleshoot a furnace by bdp co carrier corp?

serial 0786a63346? mod 398aawq36060adba. Don't know how to see if piolot is working. It says that it is automatic by detecting gas. If we put on air conditioner that blows air, but changing it to heat and nothing comes out. We shut it off via power switch and also thermostat for 10 minutes but nothing. Anyone help? Cannot locate manual anywhere. don't really have the money for a tech at all to help.
We did reset it by the switch on the side where the power is. Cannot find any other reset buttons. Really too scared to do too much because we have 4 kids in the house.. But nothing. Cannot see reset button. Changed the air filter. Temp guide says it is below 60, which we believe.. golly.
ok, do you mean the cover of the thermostat? there is only a red wire when i take off the cover.. the furnace itself sounds like it is working, but no blowing air.. if we turn the thermostat warmer, it clicks but nothing. do you know where a reset button would be? or where we could find a manual?

Answers:

1From the serial number, it was manufactured in 1986, so it has electronic ignition and doesn't use a thermocouple. It probably uses a carrier 3-wire pilot burner instead. It is possible it could be a reset switch, but usually if it is a reset switch, the blower runs continuously until it is reset. If nothing at all is happening, it is probably a different problem. It is possibly the thermostat. If you take the thermostat off and connect the red and white wire together the furnace should start after turning the power switch at the furnace back on. If it does start, then you have a problem with your thermostat. If it still does nothing you will need to call a technician. If it is clicking but not doing anything else, it sounds like you are not getting gas... possibly a defective gas valve and it is not a reset button. Do you have gas to the house? It could be many things, so you will need someone with experience to diagnose the problem.... I don't think it is something you can do yourself.
